Can a professional license or business license be revoked if I’m charged with a DWI?

Q: Can a professional license or business license be revoked if I’m charged with a DWI?

A: It depends what it is. For example, if I as a lawyer am convicted of Driving While Intoxicated as a felony, a felony would prevent me from being a lawyer. It could very well prevent me from holding office, from voting, from all of the things that happen when you are convicted of a felony, so that is a possibility. Otherwise it is going to depend upon your contract of employment, what you do for a living, and the circumstances of your license. For example, if you are an over-the-road truck driver, and you have a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License), you may very well lose your job, because you can no longer have the commercial driver’s license. In that case, for example, a .04 is the legal limit for somebody with a commercial driver’s license. So it will depend upon what your license is, what your profession is, and what your employment contract is.
