Police Investigating Circumstances Surrounding Baby Hit, Killed in Car Accident

A vigil was held on Tuesday, June 21, for seven-month-old Nyree Greene. Nyree was killed in a car accident on June 19 on the east side of Buffalo. Attorney Barry Covert spoke to WGRZ about the accident and gave his legal analysis of the situation. For the full story, visit the WGRZ website.

Driver lost control of car

On Sunday, June 19, a driver lost control of his car and hit Nyree Greene’s stroller. Nyree’s family held a vigil two days later to commemorate Nyree’s life. Police say there is an ongoing investigation into what caused the crash.

According to WGRZ, police say a 44-year-old Buffalo man was on his way home when he lost control of his car and hit Nyree’s stroller, which was being pushed by her mother and a cousin.

Police investigating circumstances

Police questioned the man and then released him, but are waiting for the results of toxicology tests.

Mr. Covert told WGRZ that “because there are various tests that they put the blood through in order to see what was in the system, they’re going to be testing for alcohol, they’re going to be testing for the usual drugs.”

WGRZ reports that police are also looking into whether the car experienced a mechanical failure and will examine the car’s black box.

“That probably just basically captures the speed and the turning, how the steering wheel is turning at various locations prior to the accident,” Mr. Covert said.
